I lost my Mother (Barbara Veneklase) to cancer in 1983. My Father (Raymond Veneklase) died of cancer in 1993. Neither of them or my family had the support of Gilda's Club and it was an extremely difficult struggle that I did not handle very well. My sister, Sue Mitus, was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. While difficult, the support services and groups at Gilda's were a gift that helped our family through her journey. She died in 2013. In 2020, my sister in law, Nina Veneklase was diagnosed with cancer and died a few short weeks later. Further complicated by the pandemic, it was another very difficult time. Again Gilda's Club was there to provide the support my family needed. No gift is too small to help ensure that all people touched by cancer and grief have the support of Gilda's Club to wrap around them and walk that journey with them.
