My mom died 30 years ago in June of breast cancer.    My college roommate died 2 years ago of ovarian cancer.   Other friends have died of cancer.   As a Gilda's Club member and volunteer I am committed to our mission of providing free emotional support services for those impacted by cancer and/or grief.   As a volunteer at the front desk of the club house I am often the one who receives the first phone call from someone experiencing cancer or grief, or the first person they meet when they visit the club house for the first time.   That call or visit can be tough.  I see and hear first hand their stories.   They inspire me as I know the services we offer make a difference in dealing with this tough stuff.    Anyone who comes through our red door learns they are not alone.  This year I am dedicating my walk to the memory of my mom.   She died swinging at cancer tooth and nail.    I only wish there had been a Gilda's Club back then for both of us.
